EMPS WILL BE AT INTA'S ANNUAL MEETING IN DALLAS

The Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA), will be held from May 4 to 8 in Dallas, Texas. The meeting is the most important event in the trademark world, with more than 9.000 participants from over 140 countries.

The Meeting is the perfect occasion to meet with clients, business partners and friends, while learning about the most important developments in trademark law.

Esquivel Martín Pinto & Sessano will be there, like every year, represented by partner Adrián Esquivel.

NEW INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ACT IN SPAIN

25 - March - 2013.

The Spanish Government unveiled on March 22 the draft for the new and long awaited Intellectual Property Act. The new act is devised to enhance intellectual property protection and fighting counterfeit online.

The main features of the Draft are:

1. Restriction of the concept of private copy - only copies between private individuals made from physical supports will be considered private copies, leaving out digital files This sums to the elimination of levies last year, being replaced by a compensation system charged on the State Budget.

2. More control and transparency for collective societies.

3. An Administrative body will have powers to act against websites whos specific end is to massively link to infringing content. Companies buying advertising space on these websites will also be targeted. Until now, only webs directly hosting content where liable for intellectual property infringement.

The Draft will now undergo public consultations before being discussed in Parliament.
